The mobile instant messaging app for iPhone called MXit [iTunes link] was recently released and became the top free app on the South African iPhone store, the Startup Africa writes.
Launched in 2003 and works on a stripped down version of the Jabber protocol, Mxit was one of the world’s first MIM clients.
According to their site:
MXit is a next generation Mobile Instant Messenger that connects you to a world of expression, using both instant messaging and social networking. A streamlined hybrid created for an evolving world.
It’s also told that the Mxit iPhone app can reduce the bandwidth usage, making it much cheaper for messaging and has been popular amongst teenagers.
